TRIP HAZARD REPAIR & WALKWAY LEVELING IN BLOOMINGDALE, IL
A beautiful walkway should guide visitors safely to your front door—not create a tripping hazard along the way.
At this Bloomingdale home, a curved front walkway had begun settling unevenly, creating a noticeable height difference between panels.
While the issue may have looked minor at first glance, the homeowner knew the walkway had become a safety concern and wanted it corrected before someone got hurt.
The Challenge
The problem centered around a settled walkway joint that had developed between two concrete sections.
The uneven slab created:
- A noticeable trip hazard
- An uneven walking surface
- Increased risk for family members and guests
- Concerns about liability if someone fell
Like many walkway settlement problems, the real issue wasn’t the concrete itself.
Over time, soil movement and erosion beneath the slab had caused one section of the walkway to lose support and settle lower than the surrounding concrete.
The homeowner wanted to:
- Eliminate the trip hazard
- Restore a smooth walking surface
- Prevent further settlement
- Avoid replacing the walkway slabs
Because of the walkway’s shape and landscaping, replacement would have been significantly more expensive and disruptive.
The Raise-Rite Solution
After evaluating the walkway, our team determined that polyurethane concrete lifting would provide the most effective repair.
This process allowed us to:
- Lift the settled section back into alignment
- Fill voids beneath the slab
- Stabilize the supporting soil
- Preserve the existing walkway and landscaping
Rather than tearing out concrete, we restored the walkway using the structure already in place.
The Fix (3-Step Process)
Step 1: Drill
Small access holes were strategically drilled into the affected walkway panel.
Step 2: Pump
High-density polyurethane foam was injected beneath the concrete. As the material expanded, it filled empty spaces and gently raised the slab back into position.
Step 3: Patch
After the lift was complete, the access holes were patched cleanly to leave a finished appearance.
The Results
The difference was immediate.
The walkway is now:
- Smooth and level
- Safer for daily use
- Properly supported underneath
- Protected against additional settlement
The homeowner no longer has to worry about visitors catching their foot on the uneven joint or the problem continuing to worsen over time.
Best of all, the repair was completed without excavation, demolition, or replacing the existing concrete.
WHY DRIVEWAYS SETTLE IN Bloomingdale, IL
Driveway settlement throughout Wheaton is commonly caused by:
- Water erosion beneath slabs
- Soil shrinkage and expansion
- Freeze-thaw cycles
- Long-term soil compaction
As support underneath the driveway weakens, concrete begins sinking unevenly.
Concrete lifting restores that support from below while correcting the visible settlement above.
